Buju Banton Releases ‘Steppa’ Video, Signs With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation
Buju Banton is firing up the airwaves once again with not only some exciting news but also a new track. Along with the announcement of his new partnership with Jay Z’s Roc Nation label, his new track “Steppa” debuted its music video last Friday, showcasing the iconic Banton on his usual motivational passage in music.
Steppa tells an epic tale of violence in inner-city Jamaica, encouraging individuals to emulate the Steppa: a wiser more conscious and nonviolent individual than a mere Shotta. “Nu mek nuh mistake, confuse Steppa with shottah”, “Steppa a nuh petty tief, Steppa a nuh tekka man, a step fi di worse, man a go step fi di betta” are some of the revering lyrics delivered by the roaring pitch in vocals exclusive to Buju Banton.
In the music video, there is a profound scene of him ‘stepping-in’ the middle of an active warfare among gang members, taking away their guns, in efforts of extinguishing fury and restoring peace.
Since Buju has been back making music, he has so far released a series of singles, namely “Bagga Mouth,” “False Pretense,” “Country for Sale,” and “Trust”, which just dropped on November 14.That being said, we can look forward to more videos from Gargamel very soon.
The artist yesterday released some photos from the behind the scenes of the Steppa video shoot on his Instagram account.
He is the second Jamaican Reggae artist to sign with Roc Nation, following Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley. His introduction to the Roc Nation family was reportedly happened by his association with Bahamian songstress Rihanna.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Buju said, “The connection came about through my association with the great queen, Miss Rihanna herself,” further explaining the details of small projects he has done with the record label leading up to the partnership.
Its evident Buju is working on his renewed music career, releasing a couple new tracks since he got out of jail. Yet he has been reserved about announcing the release of a new album.
We’re hopeful it may grace us some time next year.
