Vybz Kartel’s Cousin Sikka Rymes Shot Multiple Times, Reportedly In Critical Condition

The dancehall world is reeling from the news that up and coming artiste, Sikka Rymes, who is also the cousin of Vybz Kartel, is undergoing emergency surgery following a shooting.

Sikka, whose real name is Javian Chambers was shot multiple times according to reports and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital in a critical condition.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said the shooting happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. following an event in Sandy Park, St Andrew. Apparently the assailants, who are not yet not known had been trailing Rymes after the event. Little information is known on what type of vehicle was used in the apparent hit.   He was shot in the vicinity of the Sovereign Centre in Liguanea.

Rymes’ career is on the ascendancy as he recently released a track on the Smoothie Riddim with his cousin (Kartel). Another member of the Gaza family Shawn Storm took to social media to express his shock at the violent crime. Storm said: “Jah know mi likkle Breda sika!!!!!!!!”. He added: “fight it yute. Don’t cut yute. Du mi a beg yu Jah Jah.”

Rymes was respected as the go to man between artistes and Vybz Kartel and is known as the coordinator for setting up meetings between his cousin and anybody who wanted to meet with him.  They apparently shared a very close relationship.

Some fans are speculating that it is simply this connection that put Rymes on someone’s wanted list. Fans of dancehall, especially those who identify as Gaza, are praying for Rymes’ speedy recovery.
