Former TOK Member Craigy T Goes To Costa Rica To Promote His New Album
Every true dancehall fan remembers the days when T.O.K. dominated the airwaves. The quartet separated in 2015 after “Flexx” Davidson decided to leave the group. There was trouble in the camp from as early as 2011 when T.O.K.’s Craigy T, announced that he was no longer a member of the group because of creative differences between himself and Bay C.
Craigy T went on to pursue his solo career leaving behind the group which was once described as “the world’s greatest dancehall-reggae boy band” by The New York Times in 2004. Together the quartet produced mega hits like “Footprints”, “Gal You Ah Lead” and “I Believe”.
Craig “Craigy T” Thompson, who is a multi-award winning singer, songwriter and producer, is now promoting his solo album titled 1, in San Pedro, Costa Rica.
Craigy T left Jamaica last week to promote the album and revealed to the Jamaica Observer that he chose Central and South America because of how receptive the fans are there to his music. He based this theory on his days touring with TOK.
“I really can’t put my finger on it… I’m trying to think and I can’t really say what is the reason behind the love that feel in Costa Rica. It was always a great spot for us when I was with TOK and it is continuing right now that I am pushing my own music. They have always gravitated to the music in a special kinda way, which is great and I can only give thanks. They called me and invited me to come down and share my new stuff and I was like why not. I am going down there for a meet and greet with the fans as well as a performance with Ward 21,” he told Jamaica Observer.
He didn’t just choose Costa Rica to perform but will also shoot the video his single ‘Rock With Me Girl’. He also revealed that he will be using a Costa Rican crew to shoot the video, which will include his concert on the island.
Craigy T has a strong career and years of experience promoting and expanding his musical talents. During his time with T.O.K. they had five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 during their 20 year dominant run. After the group separated he seized on opportunities and eventually launched his own GafJam imprint.
He’s produced a number of hits since going solo like ‘No Space,’ ‘Alive,’ ‘Gonna Be Alright’ & ‘Pull It Up’. There is little doubt that this album will also do well on the dancehall charts.
