Third World And Damian Marley Release Video From Grammy Nominated Album
True dancehall fans know the birth of the genre is deeply rooted in foundation reggae and one of the most iconic bands from that time is Third World. Damian Marley’s motive behind producing the band’s latest album ‘More Work to Be Done’ is to help the new generation of dancehall lovers understand where the infectious beats of the genre come from and help Third World deliver their much needed message to a younger audience.
Marley and Third World recently released a video from the Grammy nominated album which is out on the Marley family’s Ghetto Youths International imprint. In an interview with Billboard magazine, Marley explains that he has always been familiar with the work of Third World and explained how he helped them to try and give their music a fresh style so that the younger generation could connect with their material. Marley definitely knows what it takes to blend the both type of music into something that can be appreciated by both generations, as he has four Grammy awards under his belt already.
“Third World had many songs they were working on; because they are top notch musicians, they were all good songs, but those songs wouldn’t have accomplished my goal of moving them into this new generation of music. We had discussions about re-approaching some of the songs, even the songwriting, so we almost started the album from scratch halfway through working on it. We had songwriting sessions together, came up with ideas and developed what was most attractive to us. That’s what you are hearing on the album.”
Third World has also accomplished a lot and at times and throughout their career they have dominated Reggae charts. ‘More Work to be Done’ is their 22nd album. Third World which has incorporated soul, funk and disco, into their reggae fusion band has been delivering hits since 1973.
Marley’s touch is evident in the song and in the video for ‘You’re Not the Only One (ft. Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley)’. The song which seeks to inspire people who are lonely and troubled and seeking to feel accepted in the world, is the perfect mix of modern and classic reggae. It features different scenarios of young people who seem to be struggling because of bullying and other societal pressures. Marley delivers his well-known brand of music and is backed up by the smooth crooning of Third World.
The video which features both Third World and Marley along with his older brothers Julian and Stephen Marley and Stephen’s son Jo Mersa was directed by Jay Will.
It’s been released on Youtube for all to enjoy.
