Christopher Martin’s Concert In Kenya Marred By Muggings
Jamaican dancehall artiste Christopher Martin joined by Future Fambo and D-Major staged a great performance at the “Big Deal Concert” over the weekend at the Impala Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya. The show was a success as Kenyans turned out in large numbers, but Martin and the organisers are now apologizing for the lack of security that allowed several attendees to be robbed of their valuables.
Muggers reportedly had a field day, robbing several revellers of their valuables. Fans who were aware of what was going on feared to record the event with their phones.
The concert, which marked Chris Martin‘s third visit to Kenya, was originally scheduled to be held at another venue but was forced to change locations ahead of the 9th Head of States African, Pacific and Caribbean Summit.
“We have great respect for the fans who have supported our shows and we apologize for the lapses in controls and security,” one organiser said in a statement.
In a series of tweets after the completing show, Christoper Martin noted that he was humbled by the love and warm reception he received in Nairobi. But the artist did not realise the magnitude of what was taking place in the crowd having only noticed a few scuffles from the stage. “Now…I see a few reports about my concert in Nairobi this past weekend and how my performance was marred by muggers and the lack of proper security. Whilst performing I did see a few scuffles that threw me off but I didn’t know the magnitude of what was happening”, he said.
