Queen Omega In Jamaica Recording Her Seventh Album
Queen Omega has been delivering Reggae hits for close to 20 years now. The Trinidadian singer whose given name is Jeneile Osborne, is in Jamaica recording songs for her seventh album. She is also scheduled to perform at Dub Club in St Andrew tomorrow.
She’s admitted that she is excited for the performance, and said: “The raw energy you feel when you touch stage show a ‘yard’ is indescribable.” Omega has also revealed that her seventh album features some well-known names in the reggae business like Jamaican multi-instrumentalist Locksley Dixon, who has toured with Jimmy Cliff, Queen Ifrica and Tony Rebel. Also helping her bring the album together is Thomas Broussard, a French guitarist/producer.
Omega was born in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago and her first taste of music came when she started singing calypso and soca. She left that genre and began performing roots reggae after she found the Rastafarian faith.
She then took her career to England in 2000 and released a self-titled debut album in 2001 before moving on to the Green House Family label. She dropped her second album, Pure Love, in 2003. After performing in 2004 at the Rebel Salute festival, she consistently dropped albums.
In 2008 she performed at many reggae festivals in the US, headlining the Northwest World Music festival in Eugene, Oregon. While in Jamaica she is also scheduled to perform at Sound Di Alarm, roots singer Iba Mahr’s annual New Year’s Eve charity show in Linstead, St Catherine.
