Foota Hype Remains Locked Up Even Though Immigration Case Dismissed
Dancehall selector Oneil Ricardo Thomas better known as Foota Hype is still behind bars even though his immigration case has been dismissed. Hype was arrested a little while after disembarking from the Welcome to Jamrock cruise ship in Florida on Saturday, December 14.
He appeared before an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immigration judge last Thursday, after the hearing scheduled for today was moved up.
The Jamaican Consulate in Miami told the Jamaica Star that even though the matter was dismissed, immigration lawyers requested more time to deal with other immigration concerns.
The consulate also confirmed that they had been in contact with the controversial selector and that he assured them he has been treated well.
The consulate added that they confirmed this when they contacted him by phone after his court appearance instead of making the planned visit to the facility. It’s not clear how long the other matters will take to be resolved and Hype may have to spend the Christmas behind bars at the Krome Service Processing Center in Miami.
Hype’s last post on Instagram has over 1000 likes as fans continue to call for his release.
A statement reportedly issued by the dancehall selector has been floating around Instagram, which declared that he is “doing fine and is in good health mentally and physically”. The statement said there “no charitable account set up” on behalf of Foota Hype.
