Donavon ‘The Baker’ Stewart Launches Dancehall Music Career
Donavon Stewart, now known as The Baker or Da Baka is one of the latest musical talents to ‘buss’ on Jamaica’s dancehall scene.
In late November 2019, Donavon found himself faced with a life or death situation as he was awaken by a loud bang from a robber trying to invade his van in Miami. The mugger, as Stewart stated, was out for his jewelry and held him up at gunpoint.
Talk about messing with the wrong person, the Jamaican native took his assailant head on as he daringly grabbed the thug’s AK-47 assault rifle and quickly took his own Glock handgun to deliver several shots in his chest. The robber was pronounced dead when the police arrived to the scene.
During his interview with 7 News Miami, the modern day gunslinger described the manner in which he executed the shots as baking it, saying “the only reason why I come out of it alive is when I grab that AK nozzle and put it to the side and keep baking it and mek sure, cah he lift the hand again, ah keep baking”.
News of the heroic incident quickly spread to Jamaicans all over and in turn was celebrated not only for his actions to save himself but the ‘matter of fact’ way Stewart divulged the scenario of the shooting on the news. The humor in the use of the phrase ‘baking it’ caused the news clip to go viral within days.
Now Donavon is in pursuit of a music career with his newly acquired fame, tagline ‘baking it’ and image ‘the real top shotta’ as he puts it. A Facebook post captures the budding dancehall artiste in the studio making music with the iconic Mavado and promoting their collaboration, saying to camera “the top shotta is back, part 2 real life, nuh movie”. Catch his feature on the intro of Mavado’s single Top Shotta Is Back’ which premiered on YouTube December 6, 2019.
Donavon has also released a track of his own earlier this month on YouTube titled The Baker under the name Danny Vengence aka Da Baka with Franz Capone produced by Block Production/Capone Music.
His deejaying skills are unbelievably fluid and he also appears to have some sick freestyle talent, check out his musical wits on his Facebook post over the holidays captioned Happy Holidays #Bakeit.
