Vybz Kartel Says Prison Is One Of Life’s Best Teachers, Find Out The Other Three
As this marks the eighth year of Vybz Kartel’s incarceration, his physical absence from dancehall has not slowed down the popularity of his music. He’s as popular and influential as ever and even more prolific after staying strong through what was almost certain to be a career-ending setback.
How, exactly, Kartel has maintained such productivity while behind bars remains something of a mystery. However, Di Teacha seems to be growing weary of life behind bars and he is using social media as his outlet.
Taking to Instagram to express his disappointment about his current life situation, Kartel posted a meme that talked about “Life’s three best teachers,” which are supposedly, “heartbreak, Empty pockets, and failures.” However, the dancehall king added the fourth teacher in the caption where he wrote “….and prison”. The post garnered a plethora of comments from fans who agree with him.
“a wa Dem know about dat#prison” one fan commented
After dealing with his court of appeal case, the meme could be describing how he supposedly feels about the justice system in Jamaica. During the appeal trial, the defense team argued that there were several contaminated evidence used to convict the four men in 2014.
One of the main contentions was text messages lifted from a blackberry Smartphone belonging to Vybz Kartel. After waiting on a judgment for almost 18 months, Vybz and his co-convicts grew antsy about the length of time it was taking for a verdict to be reached. Six months ago, Kartel’s lead attorney, Queen ’s Counsel Tom Taveres Finson sent a letter to the court inquiring about the case. Jamaica’s Appeal court issued a statement to Vybz’s defense team which updated them that their judgment is in the “advanced stage”. This means that the final ruling is close and they could be out in weeks or a few months.
Kartel’s frustration reached another bubbling point when his daughter Adi’Anna, 12 reached out to him on Instagram last week. He responded by offering her some comfort as welling pointing out that he was targeted by Jamaica’s justice system. He also called out the country’s dismal murder rate which stands at over 1300 this year.
Vybz Kartel born as Adidja Palmer and his three co-convicts’ Shawn Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones were hoping that the court would overturn their murder conviction and set them free before Christmas. That did not happen and the famous deejay is still doing time behind bars without further details on whether or not he has future outside the grill.
Naturally, fans were upset at the verdict but they are now eagerly awaiting the appeal court to reach a judgement, hopefully in Kartel’s favor.
