Foota Hype Chooses Detention In US Rather Than Going Home To Jamaica
Dancehall selector Foota Hype is opting to remain in ICE detention at the Krome Service Processing Center in Florida, rather than return home to Jamaica. As it stands now he has no status at all in the United States.
According to the Star Magazine, Foota Hype, whose real name is Oneil Ricardo Thomas is expected to appear before an immigration judge on Monday, January 20 with regards to his status in United States. “He has no status at this time in terms of a document that allows him entry to the US,” according to a source who is closely linked to the case, who revealed the information to THE WEEKEND STAR.
“He could return to Jamaica at any time, but he prefers to stay and put his case before the court,” the source continued.
A lot of his immigration woes seem to come from the fact that his marriage to an American woman ended before he could be granted permanent residence in the US. After his hearing in December 19 the matter was dismissed but his lawyers requested more time to resolve other immigration concerns.
“He got married and applied for his green card. However, before his green card status was finalised, Thomas got divorced.”
To top of the messy situation that he’s currently in, it appears his temporary entry permit to the US has expired.
Foota Hype, has been detained since December 14, a short while after he disembarked from the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, at Port Everglades Seaport. He’s remained in detention since.
In a statement appearing on Instagram a few days ago, the Jamaican selector assured fans “that everything will be ok”. “To all my fans, followers and well wishers, pls remember that the journey of the righteous will not be easy, but my faith in the Creator and my Ancestors is as strong as a Mountain”, he said.
Foota will be anxiously awaiting the result of his trial, to see if he can continue his US lifestyle.
