Dancehall Producer Miller 9 Waives Extradition To California After Arrest In Florida
Former Jamaican policeman turned dancehall music producer, Omar Miller, is scheduled to be returned to California after he was arrested in Florida last month.
Miller, 41 and another Jamaican Andre Omar Andrews, 34, both waived state-to-state extradition during an appearance at a Post Magistrate hearing on Thursday, January 2, 2020 before Broward County Judge Kim Theresa Mollica. No bond was set, according to court records.
When fugitives who flee state jurisdictions are caught, the original state is notified and the fugitive is given the option of waiving extradition or attempting to fight the process through a writ of habeas corpus.
Having waived theirs, Miller, who goes by the professional names Miller 9 or Milla 9, and Andrews will likely be turned over to California authorities. The outstanding warrants in California charge the Jamaican men with murder, criminal conspiracy, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Those charges relate to an home-invasion robbery and shooting that left one man dead and another injured in an Irvine, California community on October 26, 2019.
Police had identified the dead man as 20-year-old Raymond Alcala. The other victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Two days later, police also released surveillance footage from inside the home which showed both Miller and Andrews entering the residence with firearms drawn. Police believe they intended to commit a robbery when the shooting occurred.

The fugitives were then finally nabbed in Miramar, Florida by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on December 17 on an apparent Traffic and Misdemeanor charge.
In their first court appearance on December 19, the misdemeanor charge was disposed but probable cause was found to continue detaining both men over the outstanding charges in the Golden State.
Arrest paperwork showed that Miller 9 was additionally placed on an immigration hold after bio-metrics confirmed that he lacked valid immigration status and is removable from the country under US immigration law.
In court Thursday, both Miller and Andre Andrews waived extradition, which will allow them to be turned over to California cops for their next court appearance, per state and federal laws.
Miller 9 was best known for producing music for incarcerated dancehall king, Vybz Kartel. He also worked with Popcaan and Jah Vinci.
Before he was a prominent dancehall music producer, he was a former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. Along with three other cops, he was charged for the murder of 18-year-old Andre Thomas in St Andrew. The four cops were acquitted after two prosecution witnesses changed their stories and said they did not witness the shooting.
