Koffee’s ‘Toast’ Is Certified Silver In The UK
Koffee has started off 2020 in the same positive light that she ended 2019. The young dancehall/reggae superstar’s song ‘Toast’, has been officially certified silver in the United Kingdom. She was given the accolade by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in the United Kingdom for sales of over 200,000 copies. BPI the organisation which issues certifications for singles and albums in that country, made the decision in December, 2019.
The president of Ferdy Unger-Hamilton Columbia Records UK, spoke with the Jamaica Observer yesterday about the recognition that Koffee has received.
He was very happy for her and expressed his admiration for Koffee, whose real name is Mikayla Simpson. He said: “It’s amazing what Toast has achieved; it has really put Koffee on the map. If you look closely on what Koffee has done in just over a year you will see that her fans love everything she does. This is really just the beginning for Koffee.”
He also said that Columbia Records felt privileged to be able to work with an artiste of Koffee’s calibre adding that: “she is a once in a generation artiste.”
Koffee has been enjoying a prolonged run of success since the release of her debut EP Rapture. The 19-year-old shot to the top of the Billboard Reggae Albums chart in March last year after the release. It was produced jointly by Promised Land Recordings and Columbia Records.
In April last year the EP became the longest Billboard topper by a solo Jamaican since Damian Marley’s Stony Hill spent a similar amount of time in January 2018.
The young singer got her first Grammy nomination for her EP Rapture .
She’s sold about 4,000 copies in the United States. Her music has been getting love in England and another of her songs, W, which she did with American rapper Gunna, also featured on the UK’s Official Singles chart.
Toast continues to make milestones and has captivated the hearts of many, even making it to former US President Barack Obama’s Summer and end of 2019 music playlist. Toast was also featured on billionaire rapper Jay-Z’s list of favorite songs of 2019.
The song continues to enjoy success on Youtube as well and has received over 95 million views and more than 170 000 likes. She looks set to continue on the road to success in 2020 with performances confirmed for Coachella in April, and the St. Kitts Music Festival in June alongside Chronixx.
