Govana Drops First Album, ‘Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same’
4th Genna artiste Govana is leading the way for dancehall projects this year, with the release of his first album, Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same (H.A.M.A.N.T.S) today.
The Champ singer, 29, unveiled his long overdue project at a media launch on Wednesday (January 8) held at the MECA Lounge, Kingston, Jamaica.
Govana had initially announced that the project would drop in the last quarter of 2019, but it wasn’t till January 2, that he finally shared the album cover, and the tracklist. The fast-rising artiste explained that due to unforeseen personal issues he faced in 2019 he had to push the release date over in 2020.
“It was supposed to be released in 2019, but mi did a go through so much things personally with me son and mi grandmother. Whole heap a things me did a go through. So, I had to put it off until 2020,” he told DancehallMag in an interview.
Humans And Monsters Are Not The Same contains 14 songs, only four of which have been previously released.
The album, which Govana would rather call an anthology, features prominent Jamaican artistes Taurus Riley, Protoje and Dre Island who assisted the musician to bring to his vision to life. Last year, Govana mentioned that there were several producers on H.A.M.A.N.T.S., namely, Chimney Records, Big Zim Records, Quantanium Records, Emudio Productions, CJ The Chemist, The Ultimate Dream Team, and LMR Productions. In his recent tweets, he also said that he was the Executive Producer of the project.
He added that his supporters have been his biggest motivation. “People have been responding great so far. Ole is a song that everyone loves. They are just going to gobble it up mi believe so,” the artiste said passionately.
One fan on Twitter said, “the only song missing from Govana’s debut album is Up Front but oh well”, to which the artist replied, “not that type a project”.

Govana’s exclusion of the ladies’ anthems like Up Front, along with the features on his album, also indicates that fans are getting a more conscious side of the artiste on his first full-length project. According to the singer, the collection is a blend of social issues and musical wanderlust, which he seeks to convey to his listeners.
“The album is like 90% clean. I think its just one song that kinda wicked. Its messages music, just holding a vibes,” Govana said.
On January 2, he also dropped the first music video from H.A.M.A.N.T.S. for “Believe Me”, which was initially released in 2017.
Over the past three years, Govana has steadily produced hit after hit, becoming one of the most consistent artists at the forefront of Dancehall. The Spanish Town native has racked up massive streams on Youtube with songs like Gyal Clown, Baked Bean and Champ. He has also collaborated with other artistes like Jada Kingdom and Koffee.
