Dancehall artiste Govana has defended fellow 4th Genna, Aidonia over criticism about his infrequent releases, while hailing Vybz Kartel as a ‘musical monster’ who dropped a new song almost every week in 2019.  Govana just dropped his first album titled “Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same”.

The feud between Vybz Kartel and Aidonia has blown hot and cold over the years, but tensions started to simmer in November 2019 when Aidonia dropped Aircraft  with lyrics “who seh dem have the hot song a street? Hot last week it nah last not another week”.

A week later Aidonia seemed to get under Kartel’s skin further by tweeting “Dem drop million song and me use one and bussssss dem head #MortalKombat use less fi get more dmbs fcks”.  In response Kartel’s Instagram page posted a scathing comparison of the two artiste’s careers in dancehall that was intended to “end the discussion once and for all.”  The post was later deleted.

According to Govana though it was all part of Aidonia’s plan to ruffle some feathers and not necessarily Kartel’s.  Govana was speaking on the The Fix podcast on Youtube and explained that before the release of Aircraft he was driving with Aidonia who told him that he was going “to stirrup the medi”. In fact Aidonia told Govana that he was deliberately going to use Twitter and not Instagram, maybe to reach more fans. After he dropped the song he simply faded back to his personal life which is how he wanted it.

Govana shared his admiration for Aidonia who he said could drop a song after such a long time, at the end of the year and it still becomes a talking point. He was responding to questions from the host who asked when Aidonia would drop an album.

Govana said that Aidona had reached the point in his career when he could do what he wants, when he wants.

He shared that Aidonia “was never rushed.” He believes that Aircraft worked at stirring up controversy because people are “predictable and vulnerable”.

He added that Aidonia was able to do his music this way because like himself they are not fighting to be the Kings of Dancehall. He said many artistes burnout because they try to keep with somebody like Kartel who could release ten songs a week, all of which are hits.

Kartel can do this because he is a “musical monster” according to Govana. “Vybz Kartel ah release 10 song fi de week, and 10 ah dem ah 10 bad song. Yuh a try keep up wit a man like Vybz Kartel wey is a musical monster,” he said.

“You cyan find the calibur a song wah him a find. So wha gon end up happen to you? People ah get tired of you. Burnout!”, Govana added.

He also paces his music and said for last year he released 12 songs, an average of about one a month, even though some were closer together than others.

Govana says that he doesn’t follow any other artiste, including Aidonia and Kartel, because he has his own way of doing things and prefers to stay in his lane with blinders on. He said he aims to make his music timeless and by doing so he keeps his fans both hungry and full at the same time.
