Vybz Kartel’s Appeal Is Looking Good According To His Attorneys
Vybz Kartel fans are being given a glimmer of hope that the Worl’ Boss may soon be free after one of his senior lawyers said that she and her colleagues delivered ‘a very good appeal’. The lawyer, Valerie Neita-Robertson, admitted that she felt the decision was taking too long
“Of course, we are always hopeful. There are no guarantees that a client will be acquitted, but to my mind, it is a very good appeal,” she told The STAR.
She continued: “After we present our argument, they have to read it through again. And remember that it is four accused. When they (the judges) have finished writing the judgment and have it printed, they will call all the attorneys and say it is ready.”
It could also happen at any time she said, noting that such judgments are usually delivered on a Friday but attorneys are usually notified during the early part of the week.
“When they are ready, they will call us. It’s very long, too long. But what can we do but wait,” Neita-Robertson said.
The appeal process began since July 2018.
Vybz Kartel and three others Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were all convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. They are serving life sentences.
In late November last year, another lawyer Mr. Tavares Finson had wrote to the Court of Appeal President and inquired about the 18-month delay in the ruling. The registrar of the Court replied in early December and informed the lawyers representing Vybz Kartel and his co-appellants Kahira Jones, Shawn Storm and Andre St. John that the ruling from the three-member panel of Appeal’s Court judges is at an advanced stage.
Self styled Gaza VP, Sikka Rymes also expressed optimism at the impending verdict last week. “I am feeling strong, up, and positive about everything, and I am just waiting on that special day to come, enuh,” he said.
Vybz Kartel just celebrated his 8th birthday behind bars.
