Watch Koffee Play The NPR Tiny Desk Concert After Her Big Grammy Win
After Koffee’s historic win at the 2020 Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album last night, NPR has released the latest edition of their Tiny Desk Concert series featuring the young Jamaican songstress. Watch it below.
The modest singer performed three songs from her debut EP Rapture which made her the first woman and youngest artiste to ever win in the Reggae Album cateogry. The set list inlcuded “Raggamuffin”, “Rapture”, “Toast”, and her latest single with American rapper Gunna titled “W”.
Backed up by her full band the live renditions sounded pitch perfect. After the first song, she paused to thank NPR and the Tiny Desk audience for having her and her band. “I want to say thank you for having myself and my band for the very first time here at Tiny Desk. It’s a great pleasure”, the 19 year old singer said.
She continued, “It’s been a fairly short musical journey and we’ve seen fairly much success, so I give thanks. I want to thank everybody who’s been involved You have now become a part of my journey.”
After singing Rapture, Koffee puts her band and backup singers in the spotlight. “It’s a pleasure for me to see people from different backgrounds come together to make one beautiful thing,” she said before singing her mash hit Toast.
Those people include Stephen Asamoah-Duah: drums; Stephen Forbes: percussion; Nana Pokes: bass; David Melodee: keys; Thomas Broussard: guitar; Zhayna France: vocals; Shanice Drysdale: vocals.
