Vybz Kartel has seemingly fired back at Diahann Gordon Harrison for her comments that alluded to him being one of the main perpetrators of violence among youth in Jamaica. Harrison is one of the leading children’s advocates on the island.

During the Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Christians at the Knutsford Court Hotel on January 26 Harrison said: “This is the person they saw as the be-all and end-all of what you need to strive to be like. If you stop and just dissect for a moment a cross section of the type of lyrics that are contained in Mr Palmer’s music, certainly as a parent, that’s not the kind of music my children would be exposed to – not if I have anything to do with it.”

Kartel took to Instagram and posted a video explaining his position on the state of crime in Jamaica and also explaining why he believes he is not responsible for it. The video clip which is titled ‘Scapegoat Mentality’ features the artiste speaking on the topic, years ago, when he was still a free man.

He says: “Wha we as artistes can do to reduce crime in Jamaica? We cah do nnuttin more than just deejay yuh know. You see because crime nuh really stem from artiste, crime stem from the social and economical living condition of the people them. Crime stem from the political culture of Jamaica.”

The video also has caption at the top of it which says: “Pathetic how Vybz Kartel has been labelled as the main Protaganist of Crime & violence in our Society. Well he’s been incarcerated and for more than 5 years. (Old Govt. gone and New Govt. inna power) & the crime rate has been the worse ever.. But he said it long time ago, so Mr. Babylon and unnu GyalFren dem whey unnu know stop send out SEEIT YA again in unnu eardrumz.”

Soon after posting OVO artiste Popcaan replied: “real way”, showing his support of the message. His sentiments were echoed by many fans who commented on the post.

One who agreed with Kartel’s opinion, whole heartedly posted: “Facts. They the politicians try to paint the picture to the Jamaican society like its artist that stem the crime and violence or are responsible for the crimes going on in the garrison community when its they themselves are the biggest criminals.Trying to manipulate and use poor people but dem cyah trick we .We have a prophet name vybz kartel!.”

Another fan said: “Teach them addi”, while another one stated that it wasn’t even up for debate, “Not up for debate 👊👊👊👊👊100% accurate.”

The post has already been viewed more than 37 000 times since being posted and most of the comments are in favour of Kartel’s take on where Jamaica’s violence comes from.
