Popcaan Promises Revenge In New Single ‘Retribution’: Listen
Popcaan isn’t holding back in his latest single Retribution, the deejay flexes some grim retaliating verses to truly demonstrate why he is called the Unruly Boss. The single premiered today March 21st on his YouTube and VEVO pages.
Popcaan isn’t just being bad for being bad sake; he’s just had it with the murders of his friends. The artiste devised the song Retribution as a promise to the ones responsible that he will in fact avenge his fallen soldiers.
He pledges “mi a make dem feel pain… bullet in a dem brain, dem betta run away. Any weh dem hide mi a go fi dem … big Mac11 a go sing di melody dem, wait till mi find out, p#$$y a go dead, swear pon mi life dawg… mi have no time fi wait pon no crime solve… if dem nu dead mi nu feel good..”
Talk about instilling fear, with lyrics like that he is certain to unleash panic among the perpetrators, they know who they are. It’s also quite clear Poppy is deeply internalising and carry a heavy load for the loss of his loved ones. A month ago he disclosed on social media the impact the death of American rapper Pop Smoke had on him. The two were friends as Popcaan not only expressed his condolences but also screenshot a convo they had some time ago. It said “Stay out of trouble bro, your future bright!!! Make sure you on rd when I touch New York this year.”
Late last year Popcaan also suffered the loss of his good friend Shagel in a horrific incident, which actually took place in his home. Junior ‘Shagel’ Thompson who lived with the deejay was stabbed to death during an attempted robbery at Popcaan’s mansion in Kingston early December 2019.
The Family deejay also took to social media in October last year to mourn the death of Jamaican musician and actor Louie Rankin, another close friend, who died in a car accident during that time. Rankin was popularly known as the Don Dada from his unforgettable feature in the Jamaican movie Shottaz.
Its evident Popcaan has had his fair share of bereavement, however the entertainer still manages to keep pushing on. After the Vanquish mixtape last year, his career is in full swing, releasing a series of other tracks since 2020 including Jealousy Die Slow, Block Traffic, Promise, Sex On The River, Stats and Nah Fail. Fans can expect to hear much more from Poppy and his Unruly camp very soon.
