Vybz Kartel’s Appeal Verdict Set For Tomorrow, To Be Live Streamed

There is excitement in the Dancehall world this afternoon (April 2nd) as it has been reported that the Worl’ Boss may know his fate tomorrow. According to nationwideradiojm.com, Jamaica’s Appeal Court is expected to deliver its verdict tomorrow morning on Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer.

The verdict is expected to be delivered tomorrow morning at 9:00 and it’s also rumoured that it will be streamed online. Just recently Kartel’s right-hand man, Sikka Rymes, said that the Romping Shop singer is upbeat about his chances.

According to him, Kartel said: “I feel very upbeat about the case. Weak evidence, fabricated evidence and prosecutorial misconduct aside, there is absolutely nothing to worry about in law. I’m 100 percent sure I should be set free. Legally, there is very little to be concerned about. But put the ‘Kartel factor’ in the mix and everything gets complicated.”

In 2014, Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his associate Clive “Lizard” Williams. He was ordered to serve a minimum of 35 years in prison before being eligible for parole. Kartel has been surrounded by the controversy since September 29th, 2011, when he was arrested by police for marijuana possession.

He was later charged with the murder of a Jamaican businessman, Barrington Burton, conspiracy and illegal possession of a firearm by Jamaica’s Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT).

He was granted bail for the Burton murder on March 23rd, 2012 for JMD$3,000,000, but he remained in jail in connection with a second murder. This would be the one he was eventually sentenced for.

He was convicted of killing Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, of Waterford, St Catherine. Kartel was charged, along with two others including Vanessa “Gaza Slim” Saddler, with perverting the course of justice, after Saddler allegedly claimed that Williams had robbed her in order to mislead the police into believing that he was still alive.
The 65-day trial was said to have been the longest in Jamaica’s history.

Despite being imprisoned, Kartel has continued to release new music and in 2016 alone he released over 50 new songs. Fans of Dancehall and Kartel will be locked in tomorrow with many hoping that the prolific songwriter is declared a free man.
