The long awaited and highly anticipated new song between Drake and Popcaan, may soon hit the airwaves after Drake teased a bit of what it would sound like on his Instagram live.  The track might appear on Drake’s sixth, upcoming album.

From what has been shared, the track is destined to be an absolute banger, even though the beat is slowed down and doesn’t much sound like Dancehall but both artistes voices compliment each other well. The slow beat chosen may have purposely been done so, to ensure that Drake’s wide fan base, which is global, will understand what Popcaan, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, is saying.

In the short clip which shows Drake, previewing the music in studio he can be heard using his familiar crooning method before Popcaan jumps on with his own distinctive voice saying: “That’s all I need.”

The track was posted to Twitter by a fan and it immediately drew a favorable reaction from fans of Dancehall’s Unruly Boss.

One fan on Twitter said: “This little leaks stressss me out I NEEEED the full song now.”

The duo has been tight for some time now and in January of this year Popcaan hinted that he and Drake would soon do a Dancehall collaboration. He didn’t give much information at the time about what it may sound like.

Popcaan told Ebro Darden, while being interviewed on Beats 1 in a YouTube interview in January when asked about a collab between the two that: “It’s about time, though.”

In that same interview, he revealed that the first time he met Drake he knew that he was a genuine person. He went to explain that he knew this to be true because after his first encounter with the rap mogul, they went to an after-party at a club and Drake ordered a table but there were cups on it and Drake removed them himself. He said this showed that Drake had manners and was “a youth like meself.”

Since that time he said the Canadian based rapper has proven over and over that he is genuine and truly loves and supports Dancehall.

In recent times Drake has had to defend his use of Dancehall and Afro Beats infused music. Several Dancehall icons like Mr. Vegas and Mavado have accused him of being a ‘Culture Vulture.’

Drake addressed the allegations during a Christmas Day Rap Radar Podcast.
He said: “The definition of appropriating a culture is not supporting that culture, doing songs with people who are deeply rooted in that culture, giving opportunity to people who are in that culture,” That’s not appropriating. Appropriating is taking it for your own personal gain and denying that it was ever inspired from this. That’s the true disservice that somebody could do to the UK, to dancehall, to afrobeats. Me, I’ve always… I ensure that not only paying all due respects verbally but… I make it a point to give opportunity.”

During the interview, he also said that he believes jealousy might be fuelling the negativity towards him because Dancehall artistes were angry that he signed Popcaan to OVO.

“They’re mad that I was building with Mavado back in the day, they’re mad that I link with this person and that person and not them. You can always tell it’s personal and it was fueled by personal gain,” he added.

One thing’s for sure fans of Dancehall can’t wait to hear what they’ve come up with.
