Perhaps inspired by his memoirs, Andre ‘Popcaan’ Sutherland’s latest music video presents the three developing chapters of a present-day ‘high-star’.  The April 15, 2020 release for ‘Numbers Don’t Lie’ opens with an intro hailing friend and producer of the track, Dane Ray, and seamlessly transitions into a catchy bridge and chorus.

The single was released by the singer on his Vanquish mixtape which debuted on Drake‘s OVO Sound back in December 2019.

As each verse focuses on the highlighted present-day success, the video gives scenes of the journey to a high-rolling life from “Growth”, “The Hustle” and “The Come Up”. Popcaan had played the crime lord, “Soursop” in the 2018 film “The Intent 2: The Come Up”.

The visual treatment puts on display a boy struggling as a ‘street-side higgler’, and his transition from shame to a moment of break-through; where scenes of an established and successful ‘higgler’ is unveiled, though much remained to be pursued.

The dancehall artiste sings of his acclaimed regard with the girls, guns, and fans; each time categorically siting that the proof is in the numbers that don’t lie. Detailing his source of top-counts, Popcaan references his acclaim with the opposite sex, as a contributor to his levitating success – “Surprise the place like the raptors dem..Have gyal a reminisce pan the backers dem”

As the scenes of the boy’s development from youth to man, from a seller to singer transitions, the lyrical celebration culminates in a party setting where the artiste’s achievement is unveiled in an artful flow of fancy. Describing his numbered respect, he calls himself a god in the earth, and way out of the league of the unlearnt. He references his V16 engine drop-top Range Rover, custom jewelry, ‘nuff money’, and busy lifestyle – “mi money nuff long time, anuh jus now, Cuban ‘roun mi neck, fully buss down, 9X19 fully custom, mi yaad run like an airport killy custom…”

In customary Popcaan style the Unruly Boss, again toots his horn, “I am way up! Trouble! …woi”

The visual treatment for Numbers Don’t Lie was shot in Jamaica, and directed by Jakob Owens.  Watch below.
