Aidonia Condemns Unruly Jamaicans Defying Coronavirus Measures

The 4th Genna Boss, Aidonia is calling on artistes and those in dancehall with clout to encourage Jamaicans to cooperate with the Government of Jamaica to stop the spread of the coronavirus on the island.

On Tuesday evening at a press conference at 6:30 PM, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that the island recorded its largest jump in Covid-19 cases reaching 105 cases island wide, 31 of the new cases coming from a call center in St. Catherine, Alorica Inc, reportedly owned by JP Morgan Chase LLC, an American holding company registered in the United States.

St. Catherine where the call center operates was declared under 24 hours quarantine over the next seven (7) days. However, by the end of the press conference around 8:30 PM, scores of residents from that parish fled to neighboring parishes.

On Wednesday, the island recorded 125 cases, an additional 20 from the parish.

Jamaicans fearing a potential situation like Italy where infected persons fled quarantined areas which caused the virus to spread and get out of control, leading to thousands of deaths as the country’s health system grappled to treat those infected, have condemned the actions of those who fled the quarantine.

Aidonia took to social media to express his anger and disgust as he called out persons who were not cooperating with the government orders. “right now, nuh man nuh bring nuh %$$ery to me! People wid sense we a address! Government a try dem best but if we as a nation na work wid d system wah unu tink ago happen? Like unu a wait till dis ting get outta hand before unu see da seriousness a wah really a gwan”, he questioned on Twitter.

The artiste further ranted that at the rate people were behaving “Jamaica soon reach a 24 hour lockdown as he called on citizens to play their part, “protect unu self and unu family”.

He also called on other voices in the dancehall fraternity to speak up and use their influence to encourage Jamaicans to cooperate. “artistes now is da time to use ur social media and talk to u fans and the people of Jamaica about the seriousness of the covid 19 and letting them know to work with whatever system the government has in place…same way we use we voice fi get FAWUDD! Use it ya now to do some good!”

Aidonia is one of a few vocal and socially conscious artistes. He has been supportive of recent efforts by the government to raise funds for coronavirus to purchase personal protective equipment for frontline workers.
