Buju Banton Teases His New Album ‘Upside Down 2020’
Legendary dancehall artist Buju Banton has officially announced his upcoming album, “Upside Down 2020” in a new video message to his fans.
Banton had previously announced the title of the album as “Upside Down”, but in the video, he gave fans the significance of the updated title of the project.
Why “Upside Down” ?
The artist explained in the video, saying, “I perceive from what I’ve seen from my emergence as being upside down. In other words, we as people no longer possess things. These things we think we possess, they now possess us”. The deejay said many things are not as they ought to be and “mankind is in a state of disarray”.
As for why he added “2020” to the official album title, Banton said outside of it representing the year, “2020 has a deeper understanding in my mind. It resonates with a clear vision and seeing things for what it is”, he said.
The other significance is that there will be 20 tracks on the album.
The album will be his 13th studio album – – his first since Before the Dawn in 2010, which won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album one year later. Last month, fans were gifted the first single on the project Ganja Man , which was released on 4/20.
Despite the album being pushed back (it was initially set for an April release), Buju Banton has kept fans satisfied with a string of singles and features, including the most recent “Dangerous City“- a collab with dvsn and Ty Dolla $ign, a remix of “Trust” with Tory Lanez, and “Murda She Wrote” which was featured on the “Bad Boys For Life” movie soundtrack.
The deejay also been teasing the new project on Instagram, with a blurred-out tracklist photo.
Back in February, he also shared via Instagram that he was in the studio with popular American music producer and artiste, Pharrell Williams. The post has sparked excitement among fans that believe Pharrell will produce music on Buju’s project. In November 2019, Popcaan also shared a pic of the two in the studio together evidently making music and sharing a friendly exchange with the caption, “Stay tuned for di fire tune”.
Buju will be appearing on the debut episode of Shabbaaaaa Sound Radio, a new Apple Music radio show this Sunday, May 3 at 6PM EDT. He will discuss his place in music today, his growth as an artiste and the COVID-19 pandemic.
