Reggae Icon Capleton Mourns The Loss Of His Mother
Reggae luminary and cultural icon, Capleton, whose real name is Clifton Bailey, is mourning the loss of his adored mother, Mabel Downer-Forbes, affectionately known as “Mama Live”.
She passed away last Thursday (May 28) at the age of 73 years old in her St. Ann home. Capleton’s manager, Claudette Kemp, confirmed the entertainer’s mom’s passing to the Jamaica Observer.
“She collapsed at home yesterday [Thursday] and was rushed to the Andrews Memorial Hospital on Hope Road where she was pronounced dead,” Kemp said yesterday. “That’s the only story I have…the incident was reported to the Half-Way-Tree Police,” she continued.
As he continues to remain strong, the artiste shared a heartfelt post to his Instagram account where he expressed his sincerest gratitude to his community for their continued support and love during this hard time.
“My family and I give thanks for your thoughts and prayers on the passing of my beloved mom,” the musician said.
It has been reported that Capleton was out of town at the time of his mother’s passing when he received the devastating news, where she collapsed at her St. Ann address.
DancehallMag understands that the musician’s mother has been ailing for some time and had underlying medical issues. The two in particular had a very close mother-son relationship and have been very instrumental in his life as a constant figure of hope.
Kemp also told the Jamaica Star, “As expected, he is grieving.” “I haven’t seen him since, but we have been talking on the phone. All I can say is that he is keeping up,” she said.
The musical force ascended to stardom in the late 1990s with hit songs such as No Lotion Man, Divide and Rule, and No Know Dem. After his collaboration with Def Jam Records, his career skyrocketed as he proclaimed two albums that garnered international attention, making the Billboard charts.
Capleton has been a great source of entertainment and is globally known for his lyrical creativity, delivering high energy performances, and promoting peace and unity through his soothing tunes.
