Bounty Killer Takes Part In Protest Against Injustice And Racism
Legendary Dancehall singer Bounty Killer joined hundreds of other protesters in front of the US embassy to protest against the abusive treatment of black people in the United States and around the world following George Floyd’s murder.
Floyd, an African American man was killed on May 25, 2020, after white police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes. In a video recorded by an eye witness, Floyd was heard saying the word ‘I can’t breathe’ several times. After the video went viral, thousands are protesting worldwide and even celebrities are joining in the fight against this injustice.
At the protest, held on Old Hope Road opposite the US Embassy in Kingston on Saturday, June 6, Bounty carried a placard which called for justice for Floyd and expressed solidarity with his black brothers in the United States.
Other Dancehall/Reggae artistes that have joined the protests to speak out against racism against blacks in Jamaica and the United States include Morgan Heritage, Nature Ellis, and Spice. Celebrities like Jamaican PM Holness, Vybz Kartel, and several other Jamaican singers also took to social media to demand justice for the killing of blacks.
Bounty Killer who posted the video of the protest on his Instagram page added the caption “Give us a better way tings are really bad” #lookintomyeyes #bountykiller #Jamaica. In the video, he was seen holding a placard that reads “We stand in solidarity with our black brothers and sisters in the uniter states”.
The protest is Bounty Killer‘s way of demanding his own justice too. He said the racism was the reason behind the cancellation of his visa ten years ago.
