Listen: New Music From Richie Spice, Gold Gad, I Waata, Konshens, Kemar Highcon, Hydal And TakeOva
With Jamaican music being as diverse as it is, you can always expect new music to drop in any category or topic that you are in the mood for. With the high level of competition in the industry, some really good tracks get slipped through the cracks without us noticing. From badness to partying to meditations and reflections, here are five new songs and music videos that you might have missed.
Richie Spice – Together We Stand
Reggae heavyweight Richie Spice has now released a music video for the title track of his new album Together We Stand.
The song has been making waves internationally and is the official theme song for the Jamaican government’s fundraising efforts to fight COVID-19.
Spice implores us to
“Organize yourself its time
Love we need to save mankind
Can’t you see Jah showing signs?”
The video contains a collage of clips that show the beauty of our people, our country, and our world. He has a deep message to share and now just might be the best time to listen.
Gold Gad – Trending King
Dancehall artiste Gold Gad is back with another one. This one is rightfully named too as Trending King is now #9 on Youtube’s trending list. This release is a music video and yes, his famous Hennessey bottle and his robe are present. They stay in the car this time, however.
In the video, he is wearing a Christ-like robe and carries a staff and a bible complete with bare footedness. The video is even edited to have a vintage look.
Gold Gad does proper justice to the riddim as he continuously spits lyrics after lyrics.
“Ever trending, master the game, dem masturbating, yeah dem shaky
Self proclaim it, dem nuh see the only god inah the making
Well different from dem yuh can call mi Picasso painting
Smaddy look deh, deven try and now mi hotter than the bakery”
I Waata – Like How
Rising star I Waata has dropped a new song and video on his YouTube channel. Like How has I Waata spitting with a choppy flow as he speaks about his lifestyle and his progress in the industry.
“Dem a ask how mi dweet mi ask dem like how?
Like how? Very soon yuh gwy know”
The music video sees him in an inner-city community near a wooden shop. He is chilling with his thugs as the camera switches between them mouthing the lyrics to Like How.
This one is worth a listen.
Hydal, Kemar Highcon, Konshens – Like Woah
The trio of Hydal, Kemar Highcon, and Konshens dropped a steamy video for their collaboration
Like Woah is all about the flashy lifestyle, the girls and the parties. This one doesn’t disappoint as each artiste does their thing to give the track justice.
“F—king up the place like woah
Gyal deh yah money nuff like woah
Raise the bar like eyebrow
Wi step inah the place dem seh woooaaah”
The music video is fire. It’s shot in the middle of a suburban pool party with the usual skimpily clad bikini girls. They engage in various antics, drinking, and sexy movements that will keep your eyes fixed.
TakeOva – Too Long
TakeOva has also released the official audio for his new song, Too Long. He uses this song to poke fun at the side chicks. He seems to have taken a side in the long-standing wifey vs side chick debate, singing:
“a side chick too long
still cyaa get no promotion
dem cyaa hol no man
dem cyaa be number one”
He “bigs up” the wives for their ability to hold their men and reap all the benefits while he makes fun of the mateys for having to stay hidden in the dark.
TakeOva has a really interesting take on the situation that is sure to stir up some backlash from side chicks all over.
