Dancehall artiste Rygin King is doing well according to sources close to his camp. The popular deejay was shot and injured on Sunday after his convoy stopped following an unrelated accident in Westmoreland on Sunday.

According to reports, the deejay, whose real name is Matthew Smith, was traveling in a convoy in Bethel Town when one of the cars was involved in a collision. Some eyewitnesses said that while the entourage was attending to the vehicle, a car drove up, and a gunman shot at the bystanders, which included Rygin King.

His camp confirmed that as of today, he is resting well following emergency surgery at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, and they have requested that the public offer them some privacy during this time.

They’ve also asked that the public keep him in their prayers.

Sashalee Blackwood of Irwin Meadows in St James, who is believed to have been his girlfriend, died following the incident after she was shot as well.

Another male, believed to be a recording artist, who is still unidentified, was shot and injured during the melee, which occurred in the Struie district, Westmoreland. He was also traveling with his two children, but they were not injured during the incident.

The family may have asked for privacy because of the multitude of videos that have surfaced on Twitter, showing the singer on the ground after he was shot as well as him being rolled into surgery.

While many sent their love and support, some other unknown people tried to seize the opportunity to cash in. Mere moments after the shooting, fake pages began asking fans for donations.  One fake post read, “People I’m not dead. I was shot, and I’m in critical condition needing all the support I can get for brain surgery.”

There is no word as yet as to when he may be released from the hospital or who the shooter was.

Meanwhile, a multitude of Jamaican entertainers have sent their best wishes to Rygin and his family.  They include Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Jah Cure, Queen Ifrica, Beenie Man, QQ, Lisa Hyper, Macka Diamond, TeeJay, and D’Angel.

King’s last post on Instagram has received close to four thousand comments as fans and friends expressed concern about the incident and also sent their good wishes.

On the post, Sean Kingston said: “Prayers up for you my brother!!! Love fi life god bless u and the family major strength !!.. no Evil shall prosper ever king,” and Beenie Man also sent his well wishes: “hold it G. Prayers up.”
