Fatal Accident Claims Life Of Quada, Popcaan Friend ‘Bookha’ In St. Thomas
An associate of Dancehall artistes Quada and Popcaan passed away on Sunday (June 5) following a motorcycle accident involving several vehicles with which he was traveling in a group, as well as a truck.
Sources report that the Unruly camp associate, Bookha was among a group, which included Quada, who were on the move in Retreat, St Thomas.
Bookha, who is said to be a close friend of Popcaan and Quada, was known for performing bike stunts. The 35-year old’s real name was Duwayne Mitchell of Harbour View, St Andrew.
Mitchell was also apparently a very generous friend. Popcaan gave him a shoutout in a recent release, Friends Like These, singing “Mi see Bookha help friend, and dem treat him unkind, Envious line di Unruly nah join”.
The reports indicated that Bookha fell from his bike while trying to avoid colliding with the blue Honda which had stopped in front of him. Sources say the vehicles stopped abruptly at a bad and narrow section of the road after three of them collided with each other.
Bookha received head injuries when he hit the side of a truck that was traveling in the opposite direction at the same time. He was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.
Quada and other members of the group were traveling in the blue Honda and two other vehicles involved in the incident, according to sources.
The incident happened around 4:30 PM, sources say.
The drivers of the three other vehicles in the convoy and the truck were warned for prosecution pending an investigation into the accident, according to police.
In videos circulating on Instagram, a green motorcycle is seen in the middle of the road behind the blue Honda. Debris from the motorcycle was scattered on the roadway, as Quada and several others try desperately to revive Bookha before attempting to move him.
Quada, who was dressed in a black t-shirt and short jeans, appears shaken in the video.
The other men were also in distress after realizing their friend had died. One individual is seen kicking away Bookha’s helmet in anger after testing for a pulse.
Bookha also goes by the name of @flickadawg on Instagram and appears to be a bike enthusiast who enjoys performing daring stunts. Among his many videos of wheelies on his green Kawasaki are also videos of himself riding next to Popcaan as well as Sizzla.
Quada, 23, today released a video for a new single, Small Talk – a song about success and keeping your circle small.
The singer, a protégé of Unruly Entertainment boss Popcaan, last appeared in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court two weeks ago in the ongoing case where he is charged for the 2019 murder of Miguel Williams, who himself is alleged to have been involved in the murder of an eight-year-old girl.
It has been a difficult few weeks for some popular Dancehall artistes. TeeJay reportedly lost three friends in a shooting in St. Andrew Jamaica on June 4 when a gunman opened fire on them as they were standing on the roadside.
Shenseea’s mother passed away unexpectedly on June 25 after being admitted to the hospital for a mild stroke and heart attack.
And then there was the shooting of Rygin King on June 28 in Westmoreland that left his girlfriend dead and another artiste injured. He was reportedly hospitalized with three gunshot wounds. King has so far been moved to a third, undisclosed hospital after his team believed that his safety was compromised at the institutions.
Romeich Entertainment boss, Romeich Major, who manages Shenseea and TeeJay, reacted to the news of Bookha’s death. “Bredda this year is not a year to play with. Kmt,” he said in an Instagram story.
He continued, “God know rip youth me tired a this now. every f—– week one a the link them a pass away. People take care a uno health, be careful on road be smart be good pray!!! pray!!! pray!!”
