Shaggy Celebrates 6th Wedding Anniversary With Wife Rebecca Packer Burrell
Dancehall star Shaggy and his wife Rebecca Packer Burrell are celebrating six years since they tied the knot!
The Angel singer, in an Instagram post yesterday, shared a photo of his beautiful family with the caption, “Happy Anniversary to my wife and best friend’ love of my life, partner in crime and all around great gal’ @rebeccapackerburrell … what a ride!!! Hold on cus it gets better!”
The couple got married on July 12, 2014, reportedly under the almond trees at Goldeneye in Oracabessa, Jamaica which is Ian Flemming’s former retreat.
Shaggy, a former member of the United States Marines, and Rebecca, an art director, had been together 16 years before marriage. They share three daughters and the singer has two sons from a previous relationship.
He’s often spoken about his relationship with his wife while traveling and keeping busy, including earlier this year, when he was stuck in New York after Jamaica closed its borders due to COVID-19.
“She challenges me in many ways,” Shaggy told the Observer. “She is very opinionated. Very opinionated. We have had our fair share of arguments, but I think the best way to put it is that we are two stones, and the edges are rough, and they beat on each other until eventually, they are smooth. That’s the best way I can say it. She constantly impresses me as we go along, and that keeps my interest there. And our love is the basic thing that keeps us together; and I don’t think I have ever fallen out of love with her.”
In past years, they’ve marked the occasion with exotic vacations across the world, such as Bora Bora, France, and the Bahamas. However, it seems that this year things are a bit quiet due to Covid-19.
The Boombastic singer has released 10 studio albums, seven compilation albums and 39 singles.
In April, Shaggy celebrated the 20th anniversary of his 2000 album Hot Shot by announcing an updated version, called Hot Shot 2020. It Wasn’t Me 2020 returned as the first single on the updated album with Rayvon. His original collaborator, Rikrok, does not appear on the new version.
The new It Wasn’t Me has 1.4 million views on YouTube with fans loving the new twist to the song which sees the standard chorus returning but Shaggy’s verses changing. The new video is animated is directed by Jay Will and retells the original storyline of a man caught cheating who calls his friend for advice.
The Hot Shot 2020 album will also feature new versions of Shaggy’s hits- Boombastic, Angel, and Oh Carolina along with previously unreleased songs. Producers on the remade album include Martin Kierszenbaum, Dave Aude, Dwayne Shippy, and Shane Hoosong.
