It’s Hard Being A ‘Real G,’ Rytikal Explains In New Track: Listen

Rytikal

Dancehall artiste and EastSyde Record’s proxy, Rytikal has a heavy burden to bear.  The deejay says it’s not easy being a real G, and this is not just being a ‘stand up’ kind of guy, in the world of dancehall that means a real gangster. He gives us snippets of a ‘day in the life’ of the thug that is Rytikal in his new single Real G, which released today July 19 on YouTube through his label.

For one, a day doesn’t go by without him having to take the edge off, “Drink and smoke just fi feel free,” he sings. Always with a bag of weed that is fully stacked even with excess to share with his crew as they make moves from city to city. “St Thomas to TG, (Tivoli Gardens), Downtown, Queen Street, Morant Bay to Mobay, Tavern, Papine, Airy Castle to TG, Portmore, Linstead,” are some of the places he lists during his many quests.

Getting down to explain the grim life of a mobster, Rytikal verses continue with “EastSyde run di place … in a street everyday we nuh pree sleep. Money fi nuff till mi nah feel for it, when yuh have everything, life real sweet but it’s a big deal suh mi carry three piece/ real informer dead.”

While he goes on further with more tough rhyming, “gun under marina”, “hustling a dweet,” and “mommy haffi nice and if mi haffi run a risk,” he gives no detail of what exactly his gangster duties entail, but what ‘real G’ talks about that?

It doesn’t seem to bother the fans one bit, as the streams steadily move up in view counts so does the feedback from listeners. Much of who seem to appreciate the elusiveness of his gangster lyrics.

Keneil Becker and Mr. Kritque similarly quoted their favourite section of the track in their comments on YouTube, “It’s a big deal suh mi carry 3 piece,” they wrote in apparent appreciation. Then another fan, Prezie Sivva said, “It Nuh Easy Fi Live The Life Has A Real G… Affi Drink And Smoke Just Fi Feel Free… Song done deh suh artiste.”
