Jesse Royal Woos Madonna At Her 62nd Birthday Party In Jamaica
Reggae star Jesse Royal’s performance at Pop legend Madonna’s 62nd birthday party, at one of the world acclaimed Tryall Club’s villas in Hanover, Jamaica on Sunday, seems to have fully delighted the Papa Don’t Preach artiste.
Madonna has been bragging about the grand time she had at the prestigious property, which has been the haunt of the world’s rich and famous for more than 60 years, in a series of video clips and photos.
In the clip featuring Jesse Royal, which lasted just under four minutes, Madonna showcased the musical aspects of her birthday party, which featured a full authentic Jamaican showcase spanning from mento band players to Rastafarian drumming. At one point, she sways to and fro, shaking a red, gold, and green calabash shaker as a reggae band plays in the background.
“Birthday fun in Jamaica, “Thank you for being so welcoming,” she wrote along with three Jamaican flag emoji.
It seems Madonna fell in love with Jesse Royal’s smooth vocals as much of the clip was dedicated to his performance. The camera eventually shows herself and her boyfriend Ahlamalik Williams, in a tight embrace grooving to the reggae artiste’s latest song Sweet Sensation.
“Never had a love like this before, never had a love like this,” she sings along with Jesse, who belts out the song beside them.
Moments later, the Clear My Head singer urges members of her entourage, which included some of her dancers and her children, to engage in a dance-off, chanting: “who gone take him on? who gone take him on?” as the throng danced up a storm.
Madonna seems to have gotten a full dancehall and reggae treat, as well as exposure to the other genres of Jamaican music, as another segment of her video clip showed her children and a team of Jamaican dancers gliding to Ding Dong’s song Ravers Gas.
At one point, she turns down an offer by Williams to ‘take a draw off his spliff’ contending: “I’m preserving my vocal cords.”
She later pays keen attention to the Rastafarian drumming group, her boyfriend shaking the calabash shaker as the drummers sing “Happy Earthstrong” to her. Madonna even tried to speak a little Patois telling them: “Thank you, yah maan” and later touches elbows with one of the men, in lieu of a handshake.
Madonna also showed off the fruits served up at her party including guineps, naseberries, papayas, othaheiti apples, pineapples and melon, and cantaloupe, while in another series of pictures, she highlights a platter of ganja and Lion Pride King Weedie rolling paper, with a spliff hanging from the left side of her lips.

Madonna is no stranger to the sounds of reggae, as she too has dabbled in the music. In May last year, she released the roots reggae and hip-hop-infused song Future in collaboration with Migos rapper, Quavo, which was co-written and produced by herself and Diplo of Major Lazer, with writing support from Quavo himself and Starrah.
Future was released as the second promotional single from her Madame X album and has been described as focusing on what is ahead, but also celebrating the present and contemplating the past.
The song peaked at number 20 on the Billboard charts and debuted at number 40 on the foreign language songs chart in China, and later peaked at number 20. It also debuted at its peak of number 50 in Scotland, and rose to number 30 in Hungary, as well as 16 and 33, on the French Digital and UK Download charts, respectively.
