Though COVID-19 has proved to be the most devastating health crisis since the start of the decade, it’s an exciting time to be releasing new music. With the increased use, access, and advancement of technology, more than ever, people are craving music to fill their quarantined hours.

Reggae- dancehall newcomer and songwriter, Courtney Malcolm, who goes by the name Xo Tingz is currently soaking in this new normal and spotlight as he recently peaked number two on the popular streaming platform iTunes reggae charts with his newly released EP titled Inception .

Speaking with  DancehallMag, he said he was in a state of shock as he cannot fathom the idea that he has surpassed global stars and icons such as Popcaan, Bob Marley, and Dexta Daps.

“It feels very unreal, as I never expected it at all. Seeing my EP on the same charts as Bob Marley, Popcaan, Dexta Daps, and passing them as well peaking at #2 on iTunes Reggae charts was a proud moment for myself,” he shared.

Xo Tingz, 26, who hails from Harbour View, Jamaica, describes himself as a formidable force, says his aspiration as an emerging musician in a fast-evolving ecosystem, is simply to satisfy the demands of his audience locally and internationally while positioning himself as one of the most talented artistes the world is yet to witness.

“I want people to always have a good feeling when they listen to my music. If I can create a vibe and change their mood, I’ve done my job. Each song was inspired by what I heard when I listened to the instrumental. The vibe of the beat wrote the songs, life experience guided me,” he told  DancehallMag .

As he continues to prove himself as an inimitable force, over the past few months, since the release of his latest studio production, he describes his music as a mixture of different musical genres coming together to create a musical symphony.

“My music is different because it’s a mix of Modern Dancehall, rap, R&B, and Pop. It’s a different sound from what’s being played currently. Fans have been very supportive of this EP. They mess with  Rock With You  and  Jet Ski  heavy,” he said.

“I would describe my music as a mix of POP, HipHop, Rnb, and dancehall. Island pop. The perfect eclectic blend of sounds for the global market today,” he added.

Working assiduously to become one of the leading faces behind the music and entertainment industry, Xo Tingz says his intent is to be recognized globally.

“Five years from now I see myself as an established artiste in the music industry but also as one of the strongest performers with several international hits,” he said.

Teasing fans about his upcoming music featuring some of Jamaica’s amazing talents, he says he is impatient about the release of his new music.

“I’ve been working on a few collaborations with some really talented artists. I can’t wait to share them with the world,” he told DancehallMag.
