Reggae artiste Protoje has recruited American rapper, Wiz Khalifa, for a new single, A Vibe, off his upcoming album In Search of Lost Time.

A Vibe follows previously released singles, Same So  and Like Royalty featuring Popcaan.  The In Search of Lost Time album is expected on August 28.

For four years, the popular Jamaican singer has been waiting to collaborate with Khalifa. “In 2016 me link with Super Dupes (one of the song’s producers) and he gave me this song idea, and he told me that he thought I’d be perfect for it and when I did it I said I didn’t want to do this song without a rapper, and I want it to be Wiz Khalifa. That was 2016, and I was like I’m not doing the song until I get that feature,” Protoje explained.

His team reached out to the rapper, but they didn’t get a response and the deadline they had envisioned passed.

“It had passed the deadline and about a week after, they don’t say anything to me. They just forward me a verse to my iMessage. I see something like Wiz, and I’m like what? And me click pon it, and me just hear the man verse, and is like me ah say what! Me ah say no email, nobody no tell me say we get the feature, and like as me hear the feature me link Superman, me engineer, and me be like yow, load up the verse, me ah go shot my verse and me just finish my verse the same day and just send it back and it was a vibe, just crazy. Right in the nick of time.”

A Vibe, which also credits Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor as co-producer, was released at midnight on Thursday, August 20, and the visualizer by Yannick Reid opened with Protoje lighting his spliff and dancing.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa’s career took off in 2010 when he released Black and Yellow . He’s also known for songs such as Say Yeah and See You AgainThe singer made headlines for his 2010 arrest when approximately 60 grams of marijuana was found on his tour bus while he was in North Carolina for a concert.

“I’ve got a joint, you’ve got a lighter, let’s roll one, and we ain’t smoking no half, we want the whole one…I really love trees so roll the next one bigger.” Wiz Khalifa raps on A Vibe.

Meanwhile, Protoje uses the song to validate why he smokes as he says, life’s pressures can get persons feeling lonely, making them yearn for peace despite being surrounded by people. “So I just want to relax, roll up mi spliff and send it straight to my head yeah, smoke mi marijuana until mi eyes turn red yeah, and try to catch a vibe, sweet sweet vibe, so please don’t you kill my hype, kill my hype” the Who Knows artiste sings.

This song will be a clear hit with marijuana lovers, as the lyrics and the beat work in synchrony with relaxation and peace, the exact vibe that smoking marijuana brings.  Here are some of the reactions:
