Rygin King Drops Acoustic For ‘Larger Than Life’ In First Release Since Shooting
Dancehall deejay Rygin King is back at it with his latest release, an acoustic version of Larger Than Life which was first released in January. King is giving thanks for life following a shooting incident in June which took the life of his girlfriend and left him hospitalized.
The acoustic lyric video released today (August 21), sees Rygin opening up to a very meditative beat as he sings, “Jus a give thanks fi life, yuh nuh, from we have life we have everything.”
With his familiar crooning style, he dives into the things affecting his personal life, including the fact that someone wanted to hurt him but he lets his fans know that he intends to continue his work as a dancehall artiste and to keep making money while he can.
As could be expected he’s developed some trust issues following the incident as he sings: “That’s why mi keep gun by mi side,” adding that he trusts no one. Even though the song is meant to be introspective King does add some of his usual flair and brags about being able to have any woman he wants and living a lifestyle that many can only dream of. He alludes to the fact that he believes he is being persecuted because of his lifestyle.
“All when you do the most, dem wa fi do you like Christ. Tell dem fi gweh with di rum smile,” he sings. It’s clear that the artiste intends to remain wary of those around him, after suffering such a traumatic experience or as he cleverly puts it: “Dem hurt me once suh mi twice shy.”
Rygin King was shot and injured on Sunday, June 28 after his convoy stopped following an unrelated accident in Westmoreland on Sunday.
According to reports the deejay, whose real name is Matthew Smith, was traveling in the convoy in Bethel Town when one of the cars was involved in a collision. Some eyewitnesses said that while the entourage was attending to the vehicle, a car drove up, and a gunman shot at the bystanders, which included Rygin King. King was one of three people who were shot in the incident.
He was moved to several different hospitals during his recovery for safety reasons. It truly must be a trying time for him as he also lost his female companion, Sashalee Blackwood who died during the seemingly unprompted attack.
Fans in the comment section were very supportive of King’s return like this one who said: “If me a cry me nuh feel hurt,a just tears of joy cause me really see god a WORK,” and this one who added: “Hold di faith you get a second chance no waste it LIFE IS THE GREATEST.”
