Pushing all the criticism aside, veteran Dancehall artiste Wayne Wonder has not only joined the fleet of Jamaican deejays to voice dubplates for our politicians but has done so to represent Buju Banton’s politician daughter, Jodian Myrie.

Myrie, the 30-year-old Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for St. Andrew East Central, is set to run against the President of the People’s National Party (PNP) Dr. Peter Phillips on Election Day coming September 3rd.

It doesn’t take a political enthusiast to know, Dr. Peter Phillips is not an easy contender to overthrow and especially since the PNP has held that seat since it was created in 1967.

The JLP MP aspirant is by no means intimidated by her opponent, Phillips, nor his status as PNP president, “I do look forward to shocking you,” Myrie told The Gleaner recently when asked if she could send Phillips packing.

She has certainly surprised the music fraternity.  No one would have imagined an enlistment such as Wayne Wonder. For the Informer deejay to jump onboard, what has become the very controversial dubplate sound clashing among political parties is quite gutsy. It also raises many questions, like, was her father Buju Banton a consideration, or did he have a hand in recommending or choosing Wayne Wonder to voice the dubplate?

Jodian has expressed in the past that her father was not happy with her decision to get into politics. In a previous interview in 2018 with The Gleaner, she said, “My father was never big on representational politics or anything to deal with it, and he was very outspoken about it. He has always supported Jamaica as a whole, but when it boils down to that divide, he does not partake in it. He is not even enumerated.”

On the other hand, Myrie revealed that if it weren’t for her father’s persistence in imparting knowledge unto his children and for them acquiring a good education, she wouldn’t be the person she is today.

“If any of us (her siblings) could not speak on economic topics or read the newspapers and the Bible fluently, the man would drive you up the wall at a simple stutter. But now, we understand why,” she said.

Jodian went on to say that the one piece of advice Banton always gave his children was to “be a leader not a follower.”

A tight-lipped Banton has not uttered a word regarding his daughter’s involvement in politics nor her campaigning in the upcoming election thus far. Let’s see if this monster dub from Wayne Wonder finally gets him talking.

In the dub, Wayne sings, “Jodian Myrie bring it on … go get it girl … she nah mek the country run down … from yo here bell ring its Jodi coming for the victory.” Listen to the full dubplate below.
