Reggae Legend Toots Hibbert Hospitalized In Intensive Care, Awaiting COVID-19 Test Results
Reggae Legend Toots Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals was placed in intensive care at a private hospital in Jamaica over the weekend after he developed breathing problems.
His manager Cabel Stephenson told Loop News, “He is in an intensive care unit at a private facility in the Corporate Area. Over the weekend, he complained that he wasn’t feeling well, and we were very proactive about it, we moved quickly, checked him into the hospital as his lung function had greatly diminished,”
Stephenson added that the singer, 77, was “now in good spirits and asks for your prayers and positive vibes as we keep faith that he recuperates quickly.”
Hibbert is now awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test from the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). A few members of his team have also exhibited symptoms of the coronavirus and have taken COVID-19 tests and measures to self-quarantine.
A statement thanked the government for expediting the COVID-19 tests for Hibbert and the members of his team.
“His family has asked everyone to hold him in their prayers, and would like to thank the Minister of Culture Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and Minister of Health Christopher Tufton for their assistance in getting Mr. Hibbert tested, as well as the countless medical professionals who are taking care of Mr. Hibbert around the clock during this time.”
Toots and the Maytals released their first album in ten years, Got to Be Tough, just three days ago.
