Dancehall artiste Kranium seems surprised that his song Gal Policy has connected with fans in a big way after it amassed over 12 million views in four months on YouTube.  Gal Policy is the third most-streamed Dancehall tune on the platform, in 2020 so far, behind Charly Black’s Sidung and Koffee’s Lockdown , which both currently have 15 million views on their official videos.

Kranium has indicated that an official music video for Gal Policy is on the way and fans are excited.

In comments posted to his Twitter account, the singer also said he thought the song was average. “I honestly didn’t know gal policy was gonna hit. I thought it was a average song,” he said.

In a release, he said that “it’s humbling during tough times worldwide that people are finding peace and solace in streaming a song of mine. To see ‘Gal Policy’ take off the way it has and continues to do so is amazing.”

Kranium, whose real name is Kemar Donaldson, shot to fame in 2013 after releasing his hit single Nobody Has To Know with Ty Dolla $ign, a catchy song which led to international attention and him being signed to U.S record label Atlantic Records, which also manages the likes of Cardi B and Lil Uzi Vert.

Gal Policy was released in May and was followed by a remix with Tiwa Savage in July, which has 800,000 views on YouTube. The remix adds a flavourful twist with Tiwa bringing a female perspective to Kranium’s male-dominated scenario.

According to Kranium in an interview with BET, the song is “basically about a man who has a wife or a girlfriend that he chose as No. 1 but he has somebody on the side and that person isn’t following the rules.”

The song concept is about cheating but he clarifies “I personally think cheating is wrong. But, if you’re gonna do it, you gotta do it responsibly. You can’t make the woman who is No. 1 in your life feel like she isn’t.”

Gal Policy was released on the Soul Survivor Riddim along with another hit, Ocean Wave, by Alkaline.  While there has been more buzz about Ocean Wave, Gal Policy has been receiving much more radio play.

Meanwhile, supportive fans continue to rave about the song, with many concurring that while Kranium regards it as average, it is truly a hit. “That’s how great songs come out when u think they are average, then kaboom shit  is hard af,” one fan commented.

Another said, “nah bredda u a hit song artiste. Drop more tunes.” “Big 2020 and people are still sleeping on Kranium,” another fan added.
