Dancehall diva Ce’cile’s eight year old daughter Christiyana “Nana” Martin, swears that her mother is overprotective and in no uncertain terms, told the Bad Gyal artiste so, a few days ago.

In a cute mother-daughter exchange which Ce’cile posted on Christiyana’s Instagram page rockbynana, she urges Nana, who is clad in her school uniform, to repeat her critique of her parenting style, which was initially made off-camera.

After much prodding for almost half-a-minute, Nana relents and bashfully replies: “You are overprotective,” before quickly adding: “Sometimes.”

When her mother asked for examples, she responded: “You shout.”

Ce’cile took time out to explain that she only raises her voice at Nana when she does not immediately comply with instructions, in order to ensure that she hears.

“I shout when you don’t listen because if I talk like this 50 times, and you don’t listen, it probably means you didn’t hear,” she said then added, raising her voice: “So I have to talk like this.”

“Have I ever shouted at you when you didn’t do anything?” she asked later in the conversation, to which the now giggling child responded: No.’

“And you do lots of things, right?  Like messy; like mess up the place and refuse to clean it up…,” her mother remarked before telling her it was time for class.

Ce’cile started online classes from home with Christiyana, who is also the daughter of reggae star Christopher Martin, just over a week ago.  However, it is not business as usual for the Manchester native, as she still gets up each morning to get her only child ready just, as if she were going to the physical campus.

A few weeks ago she had explained exactly why she dressed up the child each morning, noting that she had her started wearing her school uniform from the get go.  According to her, she chose to have Nana even wear the uniform on orientation day, even though it was not required until the official first day of the term.

“As her mom, the discipline of getting up at 6am, combing her hair, having breakfast and getting ready for school is important for her. I think it is important for that structure to remain. All shoes and socks a beat inna the house…,” she said, evoking support from fellow artiste, Queen Ifrica who said she would be following suit, and Agent Sasco’s wife, Nicole McLaren Campbell who noted that the “Uniform puts them in the right mental space.”

The artiste is also a big proponent of online schooling in the face of COVID-19 and is in fact proposing that there be no face-to-face classes until the new year.

A week ago when the reopening of schools was being contemplated by the Ministry of Education, she made her position clear on Instagram.

“What about if kids are A symptomatic and come home n give the elderly more susceptible persons they may live amongst. Will there be regular free/ cheap testing available to kids and elderly? I aint even talking abot rich ppl kids who probably can afford to regularly test their kids, what about the ones who may not be able to afford testing,” she had argued.

“We never take this thing seriously until one of our own elderly/persons with underlying illness dies…we don’t want that… I see people dying that probably had at least another good 3 years left on this earth. I think no school till maybe January 2021,” she added.
