Popcaan Promises “More Hits, More Movies” & 17-Track Mixtape This Christmas
The coronavirus pandemic has really stymied the entertainment industry however, popular Jamaican deejay Popcaan, who just released his FIXTAPE album, has other plans for the remainder of the year as well as for 2021.
His vision? “More hits, more movies. Me about to appear inna some new movies..memba ah me name Soursop enuh,” he revealed in a live interview with African born radio disc jockey DJ4eign, earlier today.
Soursop was the Jamaican character that Popcaan portrayed in the British crime film The Intent 2: The Come Up. The role opened up opportunities for the singer who told the Jamaica Gleaner in 2018, “This movie is just the beginning, innuh. I already start shooting other movies, and we about to do a documentary, a proper one, about my life and my journey.”
But movies are not the dancehall artiste’s only plans. He intends on releasing another mixtape project in December, which will be comprised of 17 songs. He was however, unwilling to reveal the details around this upcoming album. All we were privy to is that he is working on the new project and that Canadian rapper Preme, who is affiliated with Drake’s OVO, may appear.
Another plan that Popcaan revealed was that he will be signing on more upcoming Jamaican artistes to his Unruly Entertainment label. “We want to sign all ah dem and get them as much exposure as we can, mek dem start make some money. It is only right…we focus on the mission and the music, me just a move forward, ah deso it deh, unruly a worldwide ting.”

When asked about the status of that effort, he responded that they were currently mixing it. “Well, we mixing it right now, so once it’s finished mixing, we are looking at a date to drop it,” he said.
Did you know that Popcaan ghostwrites for other artistes? Though he was reluctant to speak on this, he did reveal that he wrote Snoop Dogg’s verses on Lighter’s Up, which was a collaboration that also included Mavado.
Popcaan revealed that he learned so much, especially from Drake and OVO, which has inspired him to take on a new project. “I learnt a lot of business move from OVO enuh by going on the road tour with Drake and ting, being in sold out arenas and thing… it’s been a different energy towards everything. Me feel like me did need dat enuh. It just open me mind to more things inna life. It mek me want to sell out some arena across Europe next year and the year after.”
While Popcaan has sold-out concerts in the UK, he has never done so in Europe but this is definitely in his plans. “Music inna mi bloodline fam,” he stated.
