Blvk H3ro & Wayne J Lead The ‘New Millennium’ With New Dancehall EP: Listen
Long time collaborators and friends Blvk H3ro and Wayne J have teamed up once more on their New Millennium EP which was released today. (October 9)
The project was inspired by H3ro’s tour with the legendary Bunny Wailer, and seeing the international responses to Dancehall music. He describes the project as one done in a way to translate the rawness of the genre for all audiences.
“This project is a modern take on Dancehall,” H3ro said in a release. “This is two yutes paying homage and showing what the foundation of Reggae and Dancehall can do.”
The EP is seven tracks long with four brand new songs, and it features their collaboration with rising Dancehall savant Skillibeng, Young Boss (Remix) , as well as previous singles Original and Young Boss .
The EP takes on the form of a story, chronicling the artists’ journeys, starting from the perspective of two kids watching an old school stage show, snaking its way to the celebration of the women in their lives, Ghetto Queen , to an ode to togetherness and unity within the industry, “#TopTeam”. Additionally, the New Millennium story takes on a meditative and prayerful tone with The Ruler and Prayer .
“The whole thing with the project; from the sound to the artwork to the wording… I want it to really represent where the youth and where the Dancehall space is right now,” H3ro said. “Where it can go and how clean it can be and still be riveting and fulla punchlines and melodies and musicalities.”
New Millennium (EP) is being released by LA-based label Delicious Vinyl Island, drivers of Caribbean talent since the label’s inception. Through their commitment to pushing the reggae and dancehall genres forward, they have supported Blvk H3ro and Wayne J, among a plethora of Caribbean artists along their journey. The EP was produced by Top Team, Greatest Records/Bob Riddim, Kraggibadart and Blvk H3ro.
