Kranium Bags Gold In Canada For ‘Can’t Believe’

Kranium is celebrating some fantastic news for both himself and Dancehall after it was announced that his song Can’t Believe, featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Wizkid, is now certified Gold in Canada. The song which was produced by ZJ Liquid, sold over 40,000 copies in Canada.

It’s no wonder that song has done so well, considering since it’s release in 2017, the dance video has amassed a whopping 73 million-plus views on YouTube. Kranium’s career has certainly taken off lately as he was also certified Gold last year for his timeless track, Nobody Has to Know. That honor was bestowed last year in October and was presented to him by the Recording Industry Association of America. The song reached number 44 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

Kranium, whose real name is Kemar Donaldson, expressed his joy with his accomplishment on Instagram. He said: “ I want every single one a dem this the second one this year #Uk #canada,” alongside a photo of the artwork for the single. Hundreds of his fans wished him congratulations on his latest feat.

Producer ZJ Liquid spoke with the Jamaica Observer about his feelings about the track being certified Gold. He said it was a confirmation for him that he was doing something right. “This success signifies that I’m doing something good and the work is connecting with people worldwide. This is a great accomplishment for me as a producer,” he said.

ZJ Liquid, whose name is Michael Brissett, also shared that it was his dream come through to work with Kranium adding that he always wanted to find the right rhythm for him.

“I always wanted to work with Kranium but I just couldn’t find the right rhythm for him to record on. I took a rhythm that Jammy ‘Jam2’ James had created and I sent it to Kranium and he did the song,” he said.

He also shared that after he created the beat for the song he instantly knew that it would be a success. The song may have disappointed in US markets but it seems to have taken Canada by storm.

“From the executives at Atlantic Records heard the song, they expressed an interest in it. Kranium linked Ty Dolla Sign and WizKid because they are all label-mates. From I gave Kranium that rhythm, I knew it was going to be a hit,” he said. He has been in the production game since 2003 and has helped with some big hits like Girls Gone Wild by Assassin.
