“From Mask To Man,” Buju Banton’s Daughter Abihail Myrie & His ‘Champion’ Tasha Rodney Trade Blows On Twitter
It seems that Buju Banton’s recent controversial remarks about face masks and COVID-19 in Jamaica have led to the deejay’s daughter, Abihail Myrie, having to defend herself and her mother’s honor on social media.
The very public drama kicked off right after Buju shared three videos on Instagram two days ago, in which he railed against face masks and COVID-19 lockdown measures on the island which have economically impacted people and businesses.
Minutes after, Banton’s daughter Abihail Myrie went against her dad and advised her Twitter followers: “So anyway y’all wear your masks”. She was even supported by her older sister, councilor Jodian Myrie who added that everyone should “follow the protocols set in place to protect not only your life, but the lives of your loved ones.”
However, attorney Tasha Rodney, who represented Banton in 2011, decided to come to his defense once more.
Rodney tweeted to Abihail, “Go study your books and stop allowing them to use you to tear down your father.”
Abihail responded, “And if it is that you were studying yours enough you wouldn’t be on twitter.com advertising your ignorance.”
This started a back and forth brawl between the two that eventually led to some wild accusations.
Rodney clapped back that she had a degree by 20-years-old and a second one by the time she was Myrie’s age. “You are the one showing your ignorance. Those who want to wear masks are doing so. Before you disrespect me, please send me back every dollar I ever sent you. Please and thanks. By the time I was your age, I already had a degree and was working on my second one but carry on.”
That seemed to get under Myrie’s skin as she claimed that Rodney was just bitter because of an affair that went sour with her dad.
“Whatever monies you think you have sent Abihail Myrie please to post those as opposed to old photo memories you so sadly hold on to. I guess with all those degrees you still couldn’t calculate not to sleep with a married man who at the time had 13 kids and counting,” Myrie said.
“I hope the second degree made a with your life choices. And let’s not get carried away here. A degree at 20? Carry on,” Abihail continued in another tweet.
“Yes dear. I had a degree at 20. Don’t worry about my life choices. You and your mother are stil hurt that she couldn’t hold him. Don’t be upset with me. Be upset with him,” Rodney clapped back.
Rodney also seemed to confirm the affair as she continued, “You & your Mom are still bitter after all these years! Continue to tear not only your father down but me 2. You know nothing about our relationship. You thikn you do but you don’t. I will make sure to show him what a good person you turned out to be!!!!”
The fight got more bitter when Myrie tweeted: “My mom??? From mask to man. Your bitterness is showing. You were oh so paying for a man you thought you’d have when he got here to eat all of your unwanted kids. Using all the money you have to pay mortgage for his house that you’ve never even been too.”
Rodney added another post which read: “I’m not Buju’s b*tch dear. And unlike your mother, I never needed him to give me a dime.”
She ended the debate with the hashtag “Buju’s Champion” implying that the song was made for her.
That comment drew heavy ridicule from fans, and Myrie who suggested that Buju’s 1993 hit Mine Behind The Wine was a better fit for Rodney, by quoting the song’s lyrics: “Woman a mine mi, Right back a d wine, Gimmi anything and request me same time, Gyal affi mine me.”
Rodney undeterred posted: “I was always kind to you and did what I could to help your family and was under no obligation to,” she said. “I had great hopes for you and still do. So, please show some respect to your father and me. There is no reason for you to publicly attack him or me. Bless.”
Myrie retorted: “Rude as hell. I don’t even argue on here. But don’t think you’re gonna talk down to me AND mention my good good mom and i not say anything. Go roun gyal.” and then added: “Moved all your sh*t here in Jamaica thinking when he got here he would’ve moved in with you and he didn’t even visit you. Defending a man that doesn’t even want you. Be blessed, champion.”
Even though Myrie seemed like she was done with the argument, up to today, October 23, Rodney was still posting about the incident.
“I’ve* got loads of time today… so please continue harassing and being disrespectful… it looks good on y’all boo… keep it coming and hol a big BLOCK 2,” was one and she also posted: “I’m taking names and emailing the Embassy so please do continue harassing me… I’m got time today,” and these two, “Liar. Rude. Disrespectful. Ungrateful.” and “Hey, makeup works wonders you know. Abi was a funny looking girl.”
Rodney eventually posted an apology and said she could sue for slander but that “would be an exercise in futility.”
That Tweet has since been deleted.
