The highly anticipated visual treatment for Popcaan and Dave East’s Unruly collab has earned plenty of buzz for its accurate, eye-catching showcase of island life.

Shot between north coast beaches, the gritty Tivoli trenches plus other pit stops, and scenic views, fans finally got the full spectrum of East’s experience while he was hosted by the 876 GUD last month.

From the umbrella escort after his rain-drenched touchdown to sunny scenes at GoldenEye, the Harlem rapper appears to have gotten the royal treatment. The video contains cameos by Unruly protégé Quada, rising Dancehall star Skillibeng, reggae singer Dre Island and producer Dane Ray, adding some authenticity to the track’s street cred theme. East’s grimey lyrics invoke Dudus, the Shower Posse and a slew of dancehall stalwarts such as Super Cat, Buju Banton, and Vybz Kartel

Leaving his ‘Killy Killy’ collaborator on chorus duty, East largely delivers, weaving his verses with punchy quotes.

“Studying Dudus, you know, Christopher Coke, I’m talkin’ Shower Posse/ Youngin mindset, I catch a body, they gon’ idolize me/ I watched homies die and that shit traumatized me/ We watch n-ggas shining, tried to plot the robbery/ You look around, it’s only family/ We landing at Norman Manley”, he raps.

The song is found on  Dave East’s latest studio effort, Karma 3, which dropped the same day as the Unruly music video. The American emcee’s career has gained traction in recent years owing to his prolific mixtapes which feature assists from Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle and more.

With this new project plus a deluxe version including Trey Songz and Mary J Blige, it seems he’s truly living up to Unruly’s first line, “I cannot slow down, I ain’t done enough.”
