“I Was Broke AF,” LHHATL Star Spice Shares Story Behind ‘So Mi Like It’
It would be an understatement to say that Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Spice has been a success story.
Dubbed the ‘Queen of the Dancehall’ since Lady Saw‘s departure, Grace Hamilton (her real name) has gone on to make a name for herself internationally.
She continues to be a chart-topping artiste and her latest endeavor, Graci Noir – a clothing line, seems set to bring her more successes after she indicated in an Instagram post today, that a number of pieces have already been sold out since the line’s launch just a little over a month ago.
Showing off her success, she also took to Instagram to highlight that one of her hits, So Mi Like It off her 2014 EP of the same name, has amassed 92 million views since it premiered on YouTube. Considered a risque song, it has become an anthem for the ladies and continues to be in high demand.
However, for all this success, Spice has revealed that she was on the verge of quitting the music business when she was trying to promote the NotNice-produced single six years ago.
In the Instagram post today, alongside a clip from the official video, Spice indicated that things could have gone another way if that track did not do well. “When I wrote this song 6 years ago I was broke AF. Home with my kids and told myself if this song don’t Buss big I’m done with music,” she shared with her over 3 million Instagram followers.
“I drove to every party to get this track played my self. I burned CDs with the little money I got and drove around to give them out. I promoted this with all I got. Big up EVERY SELECTOR. Too much to tag. I took to the streets and never looked back. God is always right on time 🙏🏾” the singer continued.
“Moral of the story is sometimes you will definitely feel like giving up but DON’T #somilikeit ( I wanted to take out “Skin out mi pum pum line so bad”) I was shamed and embarrassed when I said it at first 😂😂😂 But that f%*king line made me Rich so I will be skinning out my pum pum right through bye.”

Spice is now a big deal and her entrepreneurial pursuits show no signs of cooling it. Shortly before her Graci Noir launch, she launched her Faces and Laces brand which is more about cosmetics and hair (wigs).
She created a song called Inches as part of her marketing campaign for the brand and that too has been doing well. This however is not her first sojourn into clothing, as for a bit over ten years she has operated clothing stores in Jamaica known as Spicey Couture.
Her continued stint in Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta also pushed her status as the Queen of Dancehall in the States making her one of the first Jamaican artistes to get that kind of exposure. She has subsequently bought a house in Atlanta and only just recently returned to the island.
