Jamaican Musician Dalton Browne Dies Four Days After Major Surgery
The family of veteran guitarist Dalton Browne is in mourning after the well-known musician died in the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in St Andrew yesterday evening. The 64-year-old had been recovering from quadruple bypass surgery which he underwent last Thursday.
“This is really tough on the family, this is a road I have never travelled before, the death of a sibling,” keyboardist and music producer Cleveland “Clevie” Browne, told DancehallMag.
According to Clevie, Browne did a quadruple bypass surgery on Wednesday, and was thought to be recuperating well. A quadruple bypass heart surgery is an open-heart surgical procedure performed when four blood vessels are blocked and need to be bypassed.
“He woke up Thursday, this was something the doctors said he had to do on his own. This death is sort of similar to Bobby Digital’s, the recovery period after surgery is critical, you need constant attention. His three children from New York are here and that had given him a lift in spirits. He was talking and was responsive, so I don’t know what happened, maybe his heart was too badly damaged and the Father decided,” said Browne.
Dalton Browne, 64, suffered a massive heart attack on October 25 and was rushed to Andrews Memorial Hospital in St Andrew. He was later transferred to the UHWI for surgery.
Plans are now underway for his funeral service arrangements.
“His children are here so we have to be quick about it,” Clevie said.
