Koffee Rounds Out Exciting 2020 On Billboard’s 21 Under 21 List
Jamaica’s petite Grammy Kid Koffee just made it to the Billboard big leagues landing a spot on their 21 under 21 list.
The annual roundup of music’s hottest minors also featured viral sensations such as Billie Eilish, Lil TJay, and Chloe x Halle. Koffee‘s prestigious nod follows partnerships with MasterCard and Malta in recent months, adding to a year of awards and accolades despite the downturn due to Coronavirus.
At 21 years old, Koffee boasts coveted collaborations with artists like Buju Banton, designers such as Thom Browne, plus praise for her artistry from the likes of Rihanna and the Obamas.
Quizzed on the unquestionable status of her global stardom, the humble starlet told Billboard, “This is a big opportunity for me, a big platform that I can use to set an example for those that are younger than me. To keep things positive and inspire others to reach their full potential — it’s a huge responsibility, and I want to do a lot of good with it.”
The youngster, who dominated 2018 with her breakout hit Toast, is having a much better pandemic year than most.
In February, she not only became the first female artist to win Best Reggae Album Grammy in the award’s 35-year history, but also the category’s youngest winner of all time. Following up that feat, Koffee then smashed Jamaican Youtube’s ‘million views in 48 hours’ record in the summer with the aptly titled track, Lockdown .
Also on this year’s impressive itinerary was her appearance on BET’s first Reggae/ Dancehall cypher at its virtual 2020 Awards ceremony, delivering her signature flow alongside heavyweights like Bounty Killer and King of the Dancehall, Beenie Man.
