Dancehall artiste Popcaan has scored a hat trick in the first few days of 2021 firing off loudly at Fully Bad, Usain Bolt and his new song, and now Markus Myrie.

His first release of the new year, Relevant, contains references to a damaged Toyota Mark X, owned by the Markus Records hitmaker and son of Buju Banton.  A tense voice note that Myrie sent regarding his damaged vehicle surfaced recently, and though details remain sketchy about the car accident, it’s clear the Unruly Boss is at odds with the producer over Myrie’s perceived foul play.

What’s been made public so far is that Popcaan borrowed Myrie’s Mark X on behalf of an associate, who unfortunately totaled the vehicle while on an errand. Dancehall selector Foota Hype, who has his “ways of getting information”, claimed in a recent Instagram Live video that the dispute arose over the estimate for repairs, with Popcaan requesting an invoice as proof. He later reneged altogether, insisting the associate was in fact responsible, so Myrie then decided to retrieve the funds through Popcaan dubplates.

That fell through as well, according to Foota, as Popcaan then wanted a fair cut of the funds already set aside for vehicle repairs, only causing more problems for Myrie in the long run.

In the charged voice note, now viral on social media, the producer is heard saying, “mi rate yuh but me a nuh one ah yuh yes man fren dem, mi cyar need fi fix an a you need fi fix it, mi cyar shoulda fix already, yuh nuh show nuh interest inna it bredda, yuh need fi humble,” clearly angry with the Unda Dirt deejay.

For many fans, however, it now seems obvious what Popcaan was referring to, in the first verse of RelevantSimilar to 2020’s Friends Like These , the new song is a scathing critique of friends turned foes.

Popcaan spits on the track, “Never know ah Mark X coulda mek yuh move different/ Style and yuh par wid yuh crew different/ P— dem vex anytime mi vent/ And still go ah road and ah use mi strength.”

Myrie has collaborated on several successful Unruly camp tracks in the past such as Level Up , as well as one of Quada’s earliest studio efforts, Reflex .

Quada’s breakthrough came after the upful tune Celebration which featured Jah Vinci and was produced by NotNice, another dancehall hitmaker with whom Popcaan has had a public falling out.
