Macka Diamond seems to have gone all out to ensure that her 50th birthday celebrations took off with a bang.

There was high drama over on her Instagram live feed, where in the midst of the celebrations, she debuted her much-anticipated Set Me Free track, a Revival-sounding number using the style of the Christian chorus He Set Me Free.  She also released the track on her YouTube VEVO.

The song, which has the characteristic stamp of Macka’s friend and songwriter Don Mafia, takes aim at her Dancehall compatriot Spice, and the recent controversy surrounding accusations by the Black Hypocrisy artiste’s former spiritual advisor RT Boss that she had worked ‘Obeah’ on the Money Goddess.

Spice has dismissed RT Boss’ claims and has tried to assure Macka that she did not attempt to harm her career.  “Macka that man never obeah you, it’s another Lie to make me look bad. You got your biggest hit songs AFTER WE WENT TO STING SO BE WISE,” she wrote in a tweet at the height of the controversy in December.

While Macka Diamond did not call Spice’s name in the new track, she instead used as the intro, a snippet of RT Boss’ verbal confession where he called the two artistes’ names and said that Spice has instructed him to use his spiritual powers to hold down her career.

In the hook Macka sings:

“God release mi, a him set mi free
Cause a me Macka D di heathen dem a pree
God release mi, a him set mi free
Mi call pon God when mi guh dung pon mi knee
God release mi, a him set mi free
A who fah name dem bury up unda guango tree
God release mi, a him set mi free
From who a guh a Obeah man an a sleep wid monkey”

She was even more damaging in the second verse of the song, where she further ripped into her arch-rival.

“Seh dem waan si mi fail
Gweh from side a mi wid oonu hypocrite hail
A nuh me a teck milk bath fi run place
How long di heathen dem think dem a guh rail
A who dat mi hear a ben dung ova pail
Guh a Obeah man a lif up monkey tail
Mi look fresh and young, badmind meck dem look stale
Free waterway, caw Macka ship still a sail”

In the third verse, she proclaimed victory over Spice, declaring that she is now unshakeable, since she now has the ‘backative’ of God.

“Suh dem a try everything fi mi drap
Done deh pon top suh a me dem caan stop
Mi a flow like river an fi dem road block
A money mi a seh, mi naw figh ova no Queen inna di Pack
Dem a try push mi dung but God have mi back
Nuh tie up mi life, but Jah pull di knot
Macka come coming from di old school of di hard knock
Mi naw sell mi soul, me dem caan drap”

During the live session when asked by a follower why she chose to do the song since she was drawing closer to Christ, Macka said she was making the proverbial ‘lemonade from lemons’.

“I am taking bad into good and making money.  Who cares?” she said.

The Money Oh artiste has been showered with birthday wishes since she made a photo post on the stroke of midnight announcing that today, January 12 was her birthday, a day after she came on IG and told her fans to all send cash to her via Cashapp.

“Happy birthday to me.  Thank you lord for another year and all the good blessings it’s bringing,” she wrote beneath a photo of herself, today.

Her musical compatriots including Angie Angel, Lady G as well as comedian Wally British were among the hundreds of well-wishers.  Interestingly, it seems her detractors were also wising her well in the responses, as none of the snide comments often made about her age were seen.
