She may be the self-titled ‘Eastsyde Queen’, but Dancehall songstress Jada Kingdom hasn’t been to her 7 Miles, St Thomas, base in a hot minute. The Bull Bay-native has primarily been in Atlanta, United States, with her producer boo Verse Simmonds over the past year, with occasional trips home to Jamaica.

In an Instagram Live yesterday, Kingdom said she fancies it this way. “It’s sad to say but mi feel more at home over here than Jamaica,” she said. “Mi nuh know when mi a forward back yet.”

Her “Kingdom mab” has been kept up to date with her ventures in Atlanta as she expands her career with the help of Simmonds. She’s also been doing appearances and performances in different states, with documented girl trips to Miami.

The 22-year-old is even less enthused to return to her roots as she said people from her community have been spreading rumors about her in light of her growing fame.

“Yuh know when yuh leave yuh community now everybody see yuh and everybody waan run een?” she asked. “So now we a try elevate certain way, now a bare ‘susususu’. All of a sudden me and people have beef. All of a sudden me and people a big friend. Just all of a sudden everything. Mi tired.”

Instead of using social media as a tool for rivalry as she would have done in the past, Kingdom said she is placing all her efforts in her career. This doesn’t mean she’ll back down from a catfight if needs be.

“At this point if yuh nah pull up fi fight, it nuh mek no sense,” she said. “If mi nuh inna di position or inna di area or deh a Jamaica or anyweh fi fight nobody, mi just a go shut the f**k up cause di back and forth thing just blehgeh, it’s just not it… Dem people yah just jealous and envious and what’s the right word? Dem hungry, dem hungry bad…”

Her refined approach is also motivated by the things at stake.

“Mi never used to think bout mi moves dem at all, me’d just do things bredda…but yuh see when yuh have something fi lose…goodie find man and sekkle down…happy a way, skin a glow a way, music career a pick up a way, money a come een a different kind a way. Just a pree fi tek care a mi family dem different and focus pon dem things deh.”

She added, “Stop pree certain things cause mi is a sweetheart and mi waan just remain a sweetheart. Mi nah go follow dem fi f–k up mi career cause memba dem nav nuh weh a go so it’s like, ‘Alright, mek mi pull dung Twinkle’.”

She encouraged viewers to adopt her new mindset.

“Just focus pon unno self yaa man. Invest inna unno self, love unno self, tek unno self serious, stop ramp wid unno own potential. Nuh watch out nobody thing.”

Kingdom is expected to release an EP on February 14, 2021.
