Beenie Man Celebrates Late Mother’s Birthday With New Music & A Family Get-Together
It’s a bittersweet weekend for veteran Dancehall deejay Beenie Man, who is celebrating his late mother’s birthday with the release of new music from his upcoming Simma album.
The entertainer is currently in his mother’s St Elizabeth hometown where he’s hosting a family get-together, to bring in what would have been his mother’s 64th birthday tomorrow.
“When yuh lose yuh mother, yuh bury har October then January come the next year and a yuh mother birthday, it’s kind of a different feeling,” he said during an Instagram Live yesterday.
‘The Doctor’ removed his glasses and grew emotional as he continued, “There’s nothing in the world weh can hurt you like when a yuh mother birthday and yuh cya see har, yuh cya buy her a cake, yuh cya give her a gift. Mi nuh waan talk bout it…it’s too serious.”
The entertainer’s mother, Lilieth Sewell, died in September after fighting a long battle with recovering from a series of strokes. Since her passing, he has pledged to build a community centre in Waterhouse, West Kingston, in her honour. He is also premiering the song Fun in the Sun, featuring Popcaan and Dre Island, on her birthday today. The single will form part of his summer-slated Simma project.
The Street Life artiste was giving fans a tour of his family’s community during the Live when he stopped to reflect on his mother’s sacrifices.
“My mother a di best person inna di world, best woman inna di world, ever,” he said. “A my mada mek mi buss enuh, cause mi get fi understand seh mi poor and she poor.
